TPK Sorong Officially Operates Non-Stop

Surabaya, 30 November 2022 - The operation of the Sorong Container Terminal (TPK) in West Papua Province will take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This was disclosed by the Head of Class I Kesyahbandaran and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, Jece Julita Piris, when met at his office. According to him, TPK Sorong's operations need to be adjusted considering the increasing flow of goods entering Sorong City and its surroundings. Therefore, Jece has issued circular letter Number: UM.003/22/10/KSOP.SRG-2022 dated concerning Determination of 24/7 (24 Hours / 7 Days) Container Loading and Unloading Working Hours at TPK Sorong.

"Most of the main commodities for the needs of the community enter through TPK Sorong, so the terminal must be ready whenever ships enter to immediately carry out loading and unloading activities," explained Jece, Tuesday (29/11).

The new working time arrangements at TPK Sorong need to be communicated to stakeholders. One of the things that is of concern to the KSOP is working hours on Sunday which has been designated as a day off for worship. Therefore, Jece admitted that he had communicated with related parties to convey work time adjustments at TPK Sorong.

"There are arrangements for workers so they don't interfere with worship time, they can do it in shifts or take turns with other workers, there is no obligation to work for those who worship on Sunday, including those who worship on Friday," he explained.

Head of Shipping Company PT SPIL Sorong Branch Faizal Arifin welcomed the adjustment of working hours at TPK Sorong. According to him, the adjustment of working time will have an impact on ship operations. For shipping, the faster the loading and unloading activities are carried out, the faster the ship will sail. With adjustments to working time, it is expected that ship loading and unloading activities can be carried out shortly after the ship docks at the terminal pier.
