Pelindo Prepares to Anticipate Potential Bad Weather at Tanjung Emas Port
Semarang (30/12) – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo Regional 3 Tanjung Emas has prepared a number of mitigation measures to anticipate predictions of bad weather in the northern waters of Java Island at the end of this year.
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 3 Tanjung Emas, Semarang, Hardianto said that a number of anticipatory steps had been prepared by Pelindo in dealing with this. Pelindo has provided 56 pumps and they are spread from the outermost points such as Yos Sudarso Street, Post 1, Musang Street, Asahan Street, Ampenan Street, Passenger Terminal, Samudera Pier, Al-Mannar Mosque, Arterial Entrance, Usman Janatin Street, M. Pardi, RTK Timur, the Attorney General's Office, Jalan Deli, and along the main road, Jalan Coaster, which is a prone point for tidal flooding. "Natural phenomena can definitely happen, our job is only to make the best possible effort to reduce the impact," he explained.
Hardianto explained that the 56 pump units were working well with a capacity of up to 800 l/second and Tanjung Emas Port officers routinely inspected the water pumps and electrical installations at various points in the Tanjung Emas Port area. Apart from that, there are also 4 additional generator units to anticipate when the power goes out, bringing a total of 8 generator units installed at several points in Tanjung Emas Port. At Tanjung Emas Port itself, the seawater sucked up by the pump will be channeled into a retention pond to store seawater for a certain period of time so that the volume of stagnant water will decrease.
Nevertheless, loading and unloading activities and other operational activities are still running smoothly. Hardianto also confirmed that PT Lamicitra's embankment, which had previously been breached, is currently in good condition and is still able to withstand rob after it was rebuilt by Pelindo. Tanjung Emas Port continues to carry out various efforts and mitigations to minimize the impact of potential bad weather that may occur.
"Apart from providing pumps, we also continue to coordinate with the Semarang Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to find out updates on climate change and weather. Apart from that, we have also raised the lining of the pier by preparing sandbags and sand tires at the Samudera Pier and Nusantara Pier to stem seawater from flowing onto land," he explained.
Previously, according to the predictions of the Semarang BMKG which continued to update weather updates regarding climate change, weather to forecasts for sea tides where it was informed that wave heights had the potential to be high for the next 2 days on 29-30 December 2022.
