Pelindo Container Makes the Port Area Green
Surabaya, 30 May 2023 - Subholding PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) has started a commitment to reforest the port area by planting 55,000 mangrove seedlings in Tambaksarioso Village, Asemrowo District, Surabaya, Tuesday (30/05). This area is an area directly adjacent to Teluk Lamong Terminal which is part of the company. The mangrove seeds will be planted in an area of 5 hectares.
PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary, Widyaswendra, said that the planting of mangrove seedlings was a form of the company's commitment through the Pelindo Care program in supporting green ports launched by the government. According to him, the company already has plans for reforestation in a number of port areas with a total of 125,000 mangrove seedlings to be planted with a total area of 31 hectares. In addition, as many as 2,700 trees will be planted, all of which will be carried out in 2023. The selection of mangrove seedlings is said to be beneficial for coastal communities as fish habitat as well as abrasion resistance.
"Today's planting in Surabaya is the first to mark the start of port greening within PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas. After Surabaya, the greening will continue with mangrove planting in Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province and coral reef rehabilitation in the Thousand Islands area," said Widyaswendra .
In the process of implementing the greening program, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas involves all of its subsidiaries as well as related stakeholders including the community. According to him, community involvement is needed as a form of harmonious corporate relations.
The green port program is also carried out through the electrification of port equipment. This is an effort to reduce air pollution which has been closely related to the port environment. Currently, most of the port equipment is operated by electricity. In fact, in several ports ships that dock at the docks can obtain supplies from an electricity connection or shore connection.
