MAKASSAR, 11 July 2023 - Prioritizing safety in serving service users, Pelindo Jasa Maritim provides materials on Occupational Safety and Health and the Environment (K3L) and Safety Management in the marine sector to maintain marine awareness of the crew.
Who doesn't remember the various accidents that happened to the ships of the world? For example, The Herald of Free Enterprise accident in 1987 which caused 193 passengers died. It turned out that after inspection, it was found that the cause of the accident was the negligence of a crew member. When departing from the port, the ship's main gate is still not fully closed. This caused seawater to flood the deck. The Herald of Free Enterprise, which was not equipped with a flooded compartment, capsized as water filled the deck.
A few years later, in 1994 to be precise, IMO adopted the ISM-Code and came into effect on July 1, 1998, where international standards were imposed for the safe management and operation of ships and for pollution prevention.
In Indonesia, there is PM 45 of 2012 concerning Ship Management, Occupational Safety and Health and Environment (K3L) materials and ship safety were given to the crew of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim which were carried out in several places, including Tanjung Perak, Balikpapan, Dumai, and Belawan. In the future similar material will also be provided to crew members in other areas such as Jakarta and Makassar, as well as a number of areas where SPJM conducts operational activities.
This aims to realize services that are of the same standard in all areas under management and are expected to have a direct impact on improving services that are felt by service users in the field of safety.
