Pelindo Initiates Consolidation Forum to Realize Corruption-Free Ports

Jakarta, August 15, 2023 - For the first time since the merger, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) initiated the Consolidation Forum "Joint Commitment of the Port Community in Corruption Eradication" as an effort to create transparency and accountability in the port environment. This forum is a forum for discussion, information sharing and good practices in eradicating corruption among stakeholders in the port environment.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Mohammad Mahfud MD, attended as the keynote speaker. Mahfud emphasized that the performance of law enforcement officials in eradicating corruption is part of the downstream process, while the upstream process lies in prevention efforts that require our commitment, including the joint commitment of the port community in eradicating corrupt practices.

"The issue of corruption is an aspect that needs to be considered in improving services at the port, it is not enough just to take action, but also needs system improvement and prevention which must be prioritized in this improvement. Digitalization of the port sector is an important step that must be taken immediately because it will make the governance system more transparent. Not only in transportation at the port but also in the distribution process up to customs," Mahfud said.

Rabin Hattari, Secretary of the Ministry of SOEs, explained in his speech that the Ministry of SOEs is committed that every policy taken by SOEs is based on objective, transparent and responsible considerations.

"This discussion forum is the right forum to ensure this commitment, by actively involving the port community, we can build a feedback and effective monitoring mechanism to ensure the integrity of the port sector," Rabin said.

Mahfud added that improving port governance has various challenges, such as the vast area and the large number of ports. Therefore, digitalization can save costs and time efficiency in the logistics process. In addition, it is also necessary to strengthen port standard policies for digitizing services, strengthening institutions, and improving inter-island governance so that they can support the strengthening of anti-corruption in the port sector.

"The commitment to eradicate corruption cannot only be done partially and sectorally, it needs a joint synergy between Pelindo, the community, law enforcement officials, PPATK, OJK, and all port stakeholders. Cooperation between these agencies is expected to optimize the prevention and prosecution of corruption, including reaching the optimal rescue of criminal assets," Mahfud said.

President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono explained that this agenda is very important, because it shows that Pelindo has a strong commitment in improving services and increasing the integrity of port people.
