Potential to become World Maritime Axis, Pelindo opens opportunities for global partners in AIPF

Jakarta, August 31, 2023 - With more than 99,000 km of coastline, the second longest in the world, Indonesia has the potential to become the world's maritime axis. The President of Indonesia has emphasized that Indonesia must work hard to improve sea connectivity, one of which is through port development.

Through state-owned enterprise Pelindo, the government is seriously transforming the management of Indonesia's ports. Indonesia's role as a producer of various world commodities as well as a significant target market for various world businesses makes the position of ports even more strategic.

GH Corporate Secretariat of Pelindo, Ali Mulyono said, Pelindo as a state-owned enterprise in the port sector carries out strategic tasks in supporting the strengthening of Indonesia's sea connectivity. Post-merger in 2021, Pelindo operates more than 120 ports in 32 Indonesian provinces.

"In 2022, the total container throughput handled by Pelindo in all its ports reached 17.2 million TEUs. This figure has the potential to continue to grow in the future, so we must ensure that port capacity can continue to answer existing needs," Ali explained.
