Jakarta, June 18, 2024 - Pelindo signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Resorts World Cruises. This is proof of Pelindo's seriousness in supporting the growth of the maritime tourism sector in Indonesia.
"The signing of this MoU marks a new chapter in the domestic maritime tourism industry and emphasizes Indonesia's position as a major cruise destination in the Asian region. With the start of this cooperation, it is expected that there will be an increase in cruise ship visits to Indonesia." said Pelindo Managing Director, Putut Sri Muljanto.
Pelindo and Resorts World Cruises agreed to collaborate and further explore the potential for future cooperation and joint development in the cruise terminal business in various locations in Indonesia, increasing cruise ship visits to Pelindo's ports, collaboration in promoting the tourism and cruise industry in Indonesia, as well as the development and service of domestic cruise routes in Indonesia.
"With Indonesia's potential as a growing market share and tourist destination, we hope to support the development of the tourism sector both to and from Indonesia, so as to improve the local economy and other sectors related to the tourism industry," said President of Resorts World Cruises, Michael Goh.
This cooperation is in line with government policy to continue developing the tourism industry. Indonesia has many maritime tourism destinations that are very potential to become cruise destinations, for example Bali, Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Raja Ampat, and others.
The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) as a regulator also plays an active role in encouraging increased tourism, especially maritime tourism through the preparation of supportive regulations for the cruise ship industry. Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transportation, Capt. Hendri Ginting said that the development of cruise ship routes in Indonesia can be a stimulus to increase the number of tourists both from within and outside the country.
"We are currently in the process of refining regulations to provide better services for foreign cruise ship operations in Indonesia. This includes the possibility to transport tourists from domestic ports for sightseeing, exploring various tourist spots and destinations, before returning back to the port of origin," explained Capt. Hendri.
Putut added that Pelindo as the largest port operator in Indonesia is ready to support cruise ship visits in Indonesia. There are more than 20 ports managed by Pelindo that serve cruise ship visits, including Tanjung Priok, Tanjung Perak, Tanjung Emas, Belawan, Makassar, Benoa, Gili Mas, Labuan Bajo, and Sorong.
"The next step is to strengthen port connectivity in the west and east so that the distribution of tourists can be more evenly distributed. Pelindo is currently developing the infrastructure of Benoa Port in Bali, the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, and also Gilimas Port in Lombok, so that these ports can become the main cruise ship destinations in eastern Indonesia," Putut concluded.
