Jakarta, 30 July 2024 - Pelindo welcomes the Government's assignment through the Ministry of Transportation to build a port in the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB). The operation of KITB was inaugurated by President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo in Batang Regency, Central Java Province, on Friday, 26 July 2024.
‘God willing, next year Pelindo together with the Ministry of Transportation can build a port that suits the needs of the area,’ said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.
The port development in KITB is in line with Pelindo's programme to integrate the port with the industrial area. With direct access connected to the port, KITB has a great opportunity to improve supply chain efficiency and speed up the process of shipping goods which will be an attraction for investors.
Group Head of Corporate Secretariat, Ardhy Wahyu Basuki said physical development work has started since June 2024 and is planned to be completed in March 2025. The length of the pier in the initial stage is 150 metres with a depth of -5 metres LWS.
‘Batang Port is projected to be able to serve barges and general cargo vessels with a weight of 6,000-7,000 DWT and a maximum vessel length of 135 metres. The cargo volume per visit is in the range of 6,500-7,000 tonnes,’ Ardhy said.
This was welcomed by shipping entrepreneurs who support the construction of the Batang Port to support goods and ship traffic in the area.
‘The assignment from the Government to Pelindo in building a port in KITB is the right decision. Pelindo already has the capacity & capability to fulfil the Government's expectations in order to provide sea connectivity for industries in KITB,’ said Chairman of DPC INSA Semarang, Hari Ratmoko.
Pelindo offers services including ship services, loading and unloading and stacking of goods and other related port services. Potential users are companies that are tenants in KITB, including shoe companies, glass companies, plastic pipe companies, and industrial gas companies.
‘We are ready to carry out the assignment from the Government in building a port in the area. We are optimistic that this port will be able to create a closer relationship between port activities and the surrounding industries,’ Ardhy concluded.
