MAKASSAR, 10 January 2025 PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) supports the government's efforts in more efficient and environmentally friendly waste management as a form of commitment in supporting sustainable environmental management.
As a form of this commitment, Pelindo Group Makassar working area handed over assistance in the form of a press machine to the Buloa Village Waste Bank, Tallo District, Makassar City, which is part of the company's Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The Head of Tallo Sub-district, Ramli Lallo, in his speech expressed his gratitude to Pelindo for paying attention, especially to the residents in the village. ‘The community must use the assistance provided as well as possible. In the past, people were still processing waste manually, but now they are using a press machine. Hopefully this assistance can support the operations of the Waste Bank in managing waste more effectively,’ said Ramli when handing over press machine assistance to the Waste Bank in Buloa Village, Thursday (9/1/2025).
He added that his party believes that good waste management not only helps protect the environment, but can also provide economic value to the community. ‘This press machine will help the Waste Bank increase work efficiency and capacity so that it can have a greater impact on the community, especially in Buloa Village,’ he said.
‘On behalf of the government, I would like to thank Pelindo for their attention that has helped many people in Tallo Sub-district. Hopefully this assistance will be useful,’ he said.
Bank Sampah Kelurahan Buloa has become one of the community initiatives that has successfully educated residents to sort waste while creating economic opportunities from recycling. With the press machine, the process of managing waste such as plastic and paper can be done in a more organised manner, thus increasing the selling value and shipping capacity to recycling partners.
Said Daeng Rani, Chairman of Buloa Village Waste Bank also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Pelindo for the press machine assistance provided. ‘We think this assistance is very useful, very useful and very efficient because so far the waste management process is still done manually.’
‘This assistance is very meaningful for us in increasing the effectiveness of the work of the Waste Bank. We hope that collaboration with Pelindo can continue to support environmental programmes that benefit the community,’ he said.
With the press machine from Pelindo, the community no longer needs to spend double energy and can also save time. ‘With this press machine, it will be more efficient, no more need for double time and labour. Alhamdulillah, the work becomes smoother. Thank you for Pelindo's attention and concern for the community, especially in Buloa Village, this is a form of protecting the earth if the garbage is sorted.’
He added, if done manually, only 5 sacks of waste can be processed per day. But with a press machine, one press can reach 25kg. Of course, this will also increase the selling value of waste.
Pelindo Regional 4 HR and General Services Division Head Basri Alam said that the assistance provided was one of the company's TJSL programmes. He hopes that the assistance can streamline labour and time.
He also hopes that residents, especially in Buloa Village, can be more active and enterprising in managing waste in the neighbourhood. ‘Hopefully this assistance can further improve the capabilities and innovations of the residents.’
Pelindo is committed to continuing to support government programmes to reduce waste in the surrounding environment. ‘Hopefully the assistance provided can be utilised properly,’ he said.
The press machine donation was also attended by PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra, PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM) Corporate Secretary Tubagus Tribudi Utama Iskandar Patrick, as well as related officials within Pelindo Group Makassar working area, as well as local government, community leaders, and local residents who fully support this initiative.
