Supporting Smooth Logistics, Makassar New Port Toll Access is Ready to be Built

MAKASSAR, 8 February 2022 – Supporting smooth logistics and economic growth in Eastern Indonesia, the toll access road to one of the National Strategic Projects (PSN) owned by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo, namely Makassar New Port (MNP) is ready to be built. The readiness for the construction of the MNP toll access road is marked by groundbreaking or the laying of the first stone at the construction site in the MNP area on Monday, February 7, 2022.

This activity was attended by, among others, the Secretary General of the Ministry of PUPR Mohammad Zainal Fatah representing the Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, Deputy I for Infrastructure, Energy and Investment of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Febry Calvin Tetelepta, Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission V Muh. Aras, Acting Governor of South Sulawesi Andi Sudirman Sulaiman along with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of South Sulawesi Province, Deputy Mayor of Makassar Fatmawati Rusdi, President Director of PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk., M. Ramdani Basri and President Director of Pelindo Arif Suhartono with Regional Head 4 Pelindo Dwi Rahmad Toto and structural officials related to Pelindo Regional 4.

In his direction, the Secretary General of the Ministry of PUPR Mohammad Zainal Fatah hopes that the MNP toll access road, whose construction will begin at the end of February, can increase the competitiveness of industrial estates in Indonesia in regional and international contexts and be able to encourage economic growth in the surrounding area.

“Toll road construction in Indonesia is one of the supporters of economic growth that can cut logistics costs and travel time. After groundbreaking, construction will begin immediately so that it can be completed according to the target, which is to operate in June 2023 or even sooner, "said Fatah.

The first phase of the construction of the MNP toll access road starts from the direction of the old port (Section 1 Toll Road) towards the 1.2 Km long MNP. Meanwhile, the second phase of construction starts from the airport (Makassar Toll Road Section IV) to MNP along 2 km with a lane width of 4 meters. Furthermore, from MNP to the airport, it will be carried out in the next stage or Phase III.

"The provincial government together with the Forkopimda of South Sulawesi are ready to oversee any development carried out in South Sulawesi and especially in Makassar," said South Sulawesi Acting Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman.

The construction of the MNP Toll Access Road, which is also part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) of the Makassar – Maros – Sungguminasa – Takalar (Mamminasata) toll road was carried out by PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk through PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk as the construction contractor.

President Director of PT Nusantara Infrastructure Tbk. Ramdani Basri conveyed, the construction of the Makassar New Port toll access road is a continuation of the Company's commitment to contribute to encouraging sustainable infrastructure development by creating regional connectivity, especially in Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

"The presence of the MNP toll road is expected to encourage economic growth, distribution of logistics and facilitate export and import routes as well as being a solution in easing congestion for goods or logistics transportation with direct access to and from MNP," said Ramdani.

The toll access road that is connected to MNP will improve access connectivity to MNP with the existing toll road, so that the travel time for container transportation will be four times faster than the condition before the toll access road existed.

"I thank all parties who have helped smooth MNP access, the presence of this access will certainly improve the smooth flow of port logistics. I hope that this toll road access will not only reduce travel time but also accelerate economic growth, not only in Makassar and South Sulawesi, but also in Eastern Indonesia," said Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono.

For information, MNP Phase 1A has been in operation since November 2018, while Phases 1B and 1C are being worked on. The existing condition of MNP currently has a container stacking yard covering an area of ​​16 hectares with a dock length of 360 meters, which with the presence of MNP toll road access in 2023 is projected to be able to serve 900 thousand TEUs of containers. In the future, in total for Phase 1, MNP will have a pier with a length of 1,600 meters and a container storage area of ​​50 hectares with a capacity of 2.5 million TEUs.
