Jakarta, 1 May 2022 – More than 637 thousand travelers via sea transportation have been recorded to have passed 59 passenger terminals managed by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo in the period 17-30 April 2022 or until D-2 Eid al-Fitr. When compared to the same period in 2021, there was an increase of 207.55%.
"We are always committed to ensuring the readiness of facilities and infrastructure at all Passenger Terminals to support the smooth flow of Lebaran homecoming in 2022. Not only at large Passenger Terminals in the four Pelindo regions such as Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Perak, Tanjung Priok and Makassar, but as well as 55 other passenger terminals. So that the homecoming flow can run safely and smoothly, and comply with health protocols and regulations that apply to travel via sea transportation, "said Group Head of Corporate Secretariat Ali Mulyono.
To support the smooth flow of homecoming, Pelindo has also opened Ciwandan Port and Indah Kiat Port in Cilegon, Banten and Panjang Port in Lampung to be able to serve additional ferry routes. This is done as a response to the high traffic flow of vehicles through the Merak – Bakauheni ferry port and is expected to help reduce queue density on this route.
"Since the Port of Indah Kiat - Panjang Port opened on Wednesday (27/4) and until today, it has served Mutiara Ferindo VII and Mutiara Berkah 1, carrying 6.005 passengers and 1,611 vehicles. Meanwhile, the Ciwandan Port - Bakauheni Port route, which was initiated by the Minister of Transportation, has served the KMP Titian Nusantara ship since Saturday (30/4) and has carried 1.433 passengers and 432 vehicles," Ali added.
Not only the addition of new routes, all port fees ranging from Guidance, Delay, Mooring and vehicle loading and unloading services are waived. Thus, the benefits and impacts can be felt optimally by shipping companies and the public. It is planned that additional routes from the three ports for crossing ships will be carried out until 9 May 2022 or adjust to conditions on the ground.
"We want to participate in realizing Safe Homecoming, Healthy Homecoming for all people who have not gone home for two years. We do this not only through the provision of comfortable and good passenger terminal facilities, but also optimal 24/7 port operational services during the Eid al-Fitr 1443H holiday period," concluded Ali.
